Indian Lichenological Society (ILS) is a non-government, non-profit organization established for the promotion of Lichenology in India. The society is registered at Lucknow (U.P.) under Society Registration Act 1860. The lichen research in India initiated almost 60 years back and at present all over the country there are about 200 researchers working on various aspects of Lichenology.
The main aim of the society is to provide a common platform for all lichen researchers of India to share their knowledge, idea and contribute towards advancement of lichen research in India. However the society expands it's scope to academic activities in other cryptogams such as algae, fungi, bryophytes and pteridophytes. For this purpose the society is planning to organize regular workshops, training programmes, symposia, conferences and also bring out News Letter and Journal. Anyone interested in cryptogams can become members of the society.
